New Foundation Opens to Support IBHP Survivors - MBC News
The Hitgwin! Qaumata Miyopimâtisiwin Foundation, also known as the Indian Boarding Homes Program Foundation, has officially opened in Saskatoon to support Survivors and descendants affected by the federal program, which placed an estimated 40,000 Indigenous children and youth in non-Indigenous boarding homes between 1952 and 1992. Through grants, scholarships, bursaries and other resources, the foundation will support healing, education, cultural revitalization and reconciliation while honouring Survivors’ experiences and prioritizing dignity, culture and community. Its name combines Nisga’a, Inuit and Cree words meaning “Rise, Shine, and Live a Good Life.”
